All About FPV Racing / Drone Racing
FPV Racing (also known as Drone Racing) – A Trend Sport Combining Speed and Skill
In FPV Racing / Drone Racing, drone pilots compete against each other on secured racetracks. What makes it special is the "FPV" – the flight from the "First Person View," or the so-called "I" perspective. Cameras are mounted on the drones, and the live feed is transmitted directly to a monitor or, most commonly, FPV goggles. This allows the pilot to see from the drone's perspective, as if they were flying it from a cockpit.
FPV drones are also widely used in other areas, such as casual freestyle flying or capturing cinematic footage.
Flying Like a (Fast) Bird – Who Hasn’t Dreamed of It?
This sport comes as close to the feeling of free flight as no other hobby—except flying yourself. Thanks to advancing technology, this hobby is now more affordable than ever. The rush of speed, combined with the thrill of action-packed flying, makes this an unparalleled experience!
The Flying Machines: High-Performance Multicopters
High-performance drones (also called quadcopters/multicopters) can reach top speeds of over 100 km/h, with specially tuned models flying even faster. These compact flying machines can either be built by the pilots themselves or purchased ready-to-fly.
Equipped with a small FPV camera and a transmitter (note: legal regulations must be observed), along with a monitor (or FPV goggles) connected to a receiver, you’re ready for the fun.
Multicopter, Quadcopter, Drone? A Brief Explanation
The term "multicopter" refers to aircraft that use multiple propellers arranged in a plane to generate lift. "Multicopter" applies to any number of motors (these can be 3, 4, 6, or 8). A "quadcopter" is a specific type of multicopter with four motors.
The term "drone" refers to an unmanned aircraft. While technically correct, it also includes other types of aircraft, such as fixed-wing planes.
With Speed Comes Responsibility – "Racing Drones" Are Not Toys
In addition to a knack for technology, pilots also need a good amount of skill—flying a racing drone requires practice, as they are very agile and responsive. It is recommended to start with a smaller model to learn how multicopters behave and how to control them.
Furthermore, it is important to note that these little speedsters are not toys. Responsible handling is a must!
Please take note of the RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES of multicopter pilots.
